Douban friends! I'm Denis Villeneuve, and my film DUNE: PART TWO is now in theaters in the Chinese mainland. I've been deeply grateful for your support since we released Dune in 2021, and seeing everyone's anticipation for DUNE: PART TWO brings me so much joy. I hope you enjoy it as well.
DUNE: PART TWO is by far the most complex and challenging film I've ever worked on, but the whole process was a lot of fun. DUNE: PART TWO is based on Frank Herbert's science fiction novel, and as you already know, I was fascinated when I first read it at the age of 14. Being able to bring Dune to life on the big screen has come true.
I co-wrote the script of DUNE: PART TWO with Jon Spaihts. We spent much time on it, aiming to deliver a delightful, thrilling, cinematic experience. This follow-up film explores the mythic journey of Paul Atreides as he unites with Chani and the Fremen while on a path of revenge against the conspirators who destroyed his family. Facing a choice between the love of his life and the fate of the known universe, he endeavors to prevent a terrible future only he can foresee. Timothée Chalamet is a talented actor, and his performance in DUNE: PART TWO, depicting Paul's growth in the wake of adversity, is captivating. Meanwhile, the storyline of Lady Jessica in DUNE: PART TWO is remarkable, with her assuming a new identity and experiencing subtle changes in her relationship with Paul. In addition, DUNE: PART TWO also featured many new and charismatic characters, such as Princess Irulan, Feyd-Rautha, Lady Margot, and more, who profoundly influenced the direction of the plot, and the relationship between the characters also created an exciting chemistry as a result, something worth looking forward to.
In terms of visual effect scenes, we continued the approach of PART ONE, using natural environments to make this world as immersive as possible. Compared with PART ONE, PART TWO has more action scenes, delivering an even more thrilling and awe-inspiring experience.
This film is designed to be a direct continuation of the first film while also working as a standalone film for those who did not see the first one.
It's a movie with more action sequences and is much more challenging but fun! PART ONE was the appetizer, then DUNE: PART TWO is the main course.
